Kerimaki ,Finland - 16.07.2008 : Kerimaki wooden church is located in Kerimaki, Finland. Kerimaki wooden church is, with its 45 meters in length, 42 meters width and 27 meters height (height of dome is 37 meters), Worlds largest wooden church. Church, which construction finished in 25th of September 1847, was consecrated June 11th 1848.
There are altogether 1670 meters of pews and it can accommodate over 3000 seating parishioners. Including standing room, he church can accommodate as many as 5000 people.
The Rev. Fredrik Neovius, who held office in the 1840s, was of the opinion that half of the people o the parish should be able to meet for religious worship at the same time. Festival days and market days also had an influence on he scale of the church. Big gatherings were part of the everyday life and it was only natural to meet for worship on market days.
