it is a protected natural monument. The top of this 27-metre high tree had leant about five metres off-centre because of the impact of the adjacent car park. That is, the tree was beginning to lean even further due to the decrease of air and water in the ground and the increased pressure on the tree roots. Consequently, there was a risk that the tree could have fallen. To preserve this unique natural monument, the Regional Unit of the Institute for the Protection of Nature of the Republic of Slovenia proposed that the tree should be secured by steel to the school building since a prior study showed the tree trunk to be in a healthy condition. Therefore in the spring of 2003, the tree was secured to the grammar school building.
